In addition to the basaic state education, Laura has approximately 500 hours advanced education, with 200 of those in Lymph Drainage Therapy from the Upledger Institute. Earning her Certification in Complex Degongestion Physiotherapy in 2006. This training enables her to effectively address issues of edema. It is an excellent post-surgical treatment as it aids in tissue regeneration as well as relieves the swelling that is experienced after surgery.
In 2002, she completed the 84 hour advanced education program and earned Certifcation as a Medical Massage Practitioner from Medical Massage Practitioners of America (http://mmpa.us). Medical Massage is result oriented and the treatment is specifically directed to resolve conditions that have been diagnosed by a Physician. A variety of modalities or procedures may be used during the session, but will focus that treatment only on the areas of the body related to the diagnosis. Several approaches will be incorporated during a Medical Massage session, including, but not limited to Muscle Testing, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Positional Release, Trigger Point Therapy and Rehabilitative Stretching Procedures. The types of therapies used during a session are determined by the Physician’s diagnosis and prescription, as. well as the client’s needs and ability to receive any particular massage modality. This healing, rehabilitative treatment effectively address a wide range of issues, helping to decrease pain and increase range of motion.
Laura earned her Certification in Massage Cupping Bodywork Therapy in 2007, and it is quickly becoming a favorite among her clientele. Massage Cupping bodywork therapy is a modified version of the common practice of cupping therapy, and the incredible results that this simple treatment produces have truly impressed those who experienced its subtle power. By creating suction and negative pressure, Massage Cupping is used to release rigid soft tissue, drain excess fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring blood flow and nourishment to stagnant skin and muscles, and stimulate the peripheral nervous system. It can be integrated into most massage/bodywork sessions or be enjoyed as an incredibly beneficial and results-oriented stand-alone treatment.
Cupping is very beneficial for many conditions such as high blood pressure, anxiety, fatigue, chronic headache, fibromyalgia and neuralgia. Contracted, congested muscle tissue will soften quickly with only a few minutes of Massage Cupping bodywork therapy, and conditions such as cellulite can be greatly reduced with a few sessions. Cupping with a strong vacuum will mimic the rolling action of deep tissue massage without the discomfort. The movement may be long and draining or circular and stimulating for stubborn knots and areas of rigid tissue. The muscles of the face greatly benefit from reduced tension and tightness, easing expression lines and loosening rigid muscles associated with TMJ disorders. Lines, wrinkles and scar tissue will soften and plump from Massage Cupping bodywork therapy. It has a face-lifting effect and results can be seen with the first treatment and are cumulative.
